Taking a walk in the forest these
days carries the added delight of fall mushrooms. With the bit of rainfall we've
had, many different species are showing up all over the forest. The oysters are
especially plentiful growing on old alder trees, sometime just out of reach, and
the chanterelles are beginning to make their appearance through the forest floor.
As with our
Spring Mushroom Photo Page
here is a selection of photographs we took of the fall mushrooms - from the classic
to the strange. We also have
Chanterelle
Mushroom and
Matsutake or Pine Mushroom
pages.
Remember - always get your mushrooms checked by a knowledgeable person before
eating. It's a good idea to eat just a little of an edible mushroom that is new
to you and check for a reaction, then go wild and indulge in these fall offerings.
