A getaway in April is always a good idea and we wanted a warm place with good surf. First stop, Waikiki Beach where the waves are easy and long and the weather was perfect. Great condo in downtown, we make huge fruit salads, smoothies, find a groovy organic food store and restaurant, and surf those long waves until our arms can't paddle any longer. Then we head over to the Island of Kauai.

We visit the Big Island of Hawaii. We visit a friend at his observatory and get wowed by celestial beauty - and I mean awed - totally humbled. The dry area of the island is perfect for observatories due to the extremely dry atmosphere , cloud-free and lack of atmospheric pollutants. That's why the Mauna Kea Observatory Centre is located there and you can visit it. Visit the Kilaueau volcano which is a sacred place for many Hawaiians. Explore beaches that are so beautiful you can't believe it.

Cuba is a wonderful vacation, an educational experience and friendly and safe for travellers. We stayed a week in Havana then rented a car and drove around the country and everywhere we were met with good cheer and friendly faces. Only drawback about travelling in Cuba is the lack of vegetables - it's a meat culture. I met a student from North Vancouver who was studying in Havana and when I told her I had brought homemade granola with me, she licked her lips at the thought of it: of course I gave her half. Other than the food, the whole experience of Cuba was inspiring: To visit a country where people are healthy and happy, with amazing music, art and beaches is a treat. To feel safe at all times so you can enjoy your surroundings is also a big plus in today's world.
