13: A Walk to Remember
13 years of dreaming, 7 months of planning and 1100 meals prepared and packed
into 30 food boxes: that's how you prepare for a 4300 km walk. Rick Kaselj shares
slides and stories from his epic 5-month hike of the Pacific Crest Trail, which
starts at the Mexico border and takes you through deserts and over mountain ranges
to end in Manning Park. Wednesday, October 13, 7:00, Parkgate Library. |

20: Our Backyard Wilderness
Discover the little-known Indian Arm Trail with Don McPherson. McPherson has spent
much of the past 6 years blazing a 68 km trail around Indian Arm, from Mount Seymour
to Buntzen Lake. (He prefers to call it a "route", because it is too
wild to be a classic trail.) Come and hear about his experiences! Wednesday, October
20, 7:30, Parkgate Library |

22: Black on Black: Arthur Black Comes to North Vancouver
Broadcaster and writer Arthur Black will be making a rare appearance
in North Vancouver as the guest of the Friends of the North Vancouver District
Public Library during Celebrate Your Library Week.
Black hosted CBC's Basic Black for 19 years; the programme was dedicated to
the weird and wacky, and became a "can't miss" fixture on many people's
weekend schedules. He now writes a weekly humour column syndicated in 50-odd Canadian
newspapers and has authored nine books, two of which won the prestigious Stephen
Leacock Medal for Humour. "Black on Black : an evening with Arthur Black"
takes place at the Capilano College Performing Arts Theatre at 8 pm on Friday,
October 22. Tickets are $25 from the Theatre Box Office at 604 990 7810: the event
is a fund-raiser for the Friends of the Library. For more information, please
call Friends Chairman Dave Potter at 604 250 0051. |
