Seymour Art Gallery

The Seymour Art Gallery, established 1985, is a non-profit public gallery in the heart of Deep Cove, North Vancouver. We are working to establish and maintain an active and financially sustainable art gallery that will foster excellence and promote interest in the arts.

We welcome more than 25,000 visitors yearly to our gallery, Gallery Shop, and special events. Along with a busy exhibition schedule, we present performance events — including music, artist demonstrations, interactive art-making, and events for children. The Seymour Art Gallery establishes a high standard in our balanced program of visual and performing arts.

The gallery also plays an educational role, by organizing programs for schools and activities for the general public in conjunction with our exhibitions.

School Programs
The Seymour Art Gallery has established a school program as a community resource to broaden the range of learning opportunities in the visual arts.

The sessions are always in conjunction with the exhibition on display at the gallery. Students receive a short lecture from a visual artist regarding the exhibition followed by a one-hour hands-on workshop. We offer two programs; catering to both daycares and elementary schools as well as secondary school classes.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to meet professional artists and benefit from their experience. Each session is enhanced by the ambiance of the gallery and the exposure to original art.

Here we are, right in your neighborhood, opening our doors to children and youth to enhance their knowledge, help them appreciate art and let them find inspiration to better express themselves.

We look forward to working with teachers to create an inspiring educational art experience for students.

First Impressions Theatre

First Impressions Theatre began in 1983 with a goal to provide a vehicle for serious actors to study their craft in a live performance setting. It has evolved over the years, however it has never lost sight of its role as a stepping stone for performers.

In 1992 after five years of fund-raising it became a resident theatre company of the new Deep Cove Shaw Theatre. Having a home base, the group has been able to attract a large loyal audience, which in turn has made the group stronger and financially independent. The excellent reputation of First Impressions Theatre is spreading, its high quality productions and large audiences have made it one that experienced actors seek out.

Vancouver boasts a huge acting community due in part to the burgeoning movie industry. The actors involved in this industry hone their skills by participating in live theatre productions, where they receive immediate uninfluenced feed-back from the audience. Valuable to professional experienced actors, live theatre is also the ultimate tool for new actors to achieve experience, build resumes and learn first hand all aspects of mounting a production.

The Deep Cove Heritage Society warmly welcomes you to browse our website or drop by our office to learn more about this area of the District of North Vancouver as well as to encourage you contribute your stories about the Seymour area.

Our communities include Deep Cove, Indian Arm, Cove Cliff/Strathcona, Dollarton, Roche Point, Indian River, Parkway, Parkgate, Northlands, McCarntney Woods, Tsleil-Waututh Nation, Windsor Park, Blueridge, Seymour Heights, Windridge, Maplewood, Riverside East and Mount Seymour. As a rapidly developing community, it is important to understand our heritage and to develop our sense of place and belonging.

Why did you choose to live or visit here? Was it the pull of the sea, the lush forests and the surrounding majestic mountains that caused our pioneers to first settle here?

Our environment, so full of natural beauty, has developed from a summer resort area to an ever-growing community. During our growth, we have seen many changes. People, businesses and industries have come and gone. Throughout all these changes the people who live here have kept their strong sense of place.

The Deep Cove Heritage Society is there for the public, be it general interest or research purposes. It was established in 1985 by a dedicated group of volunteers many of whom are still with us today. Our archives house a collection of over 4,000 photographs, some dating back to the turn of the century, as well as manuscript materials, maps, documents, and oral and written interviews with the area’s pioneers.
