Canadian playwright Norm Foster is often compared to American playwright Neil Simon and British playwright Alan Ayckbourn. Like them, his characters seem familiar, we may even see bits of ourselves. Foster has been the most produced playwright in Canada for two decades and The Love List, written in 2003, is another hit in from his lengthy catalogue.
The Love List tells the story of Bill, a staid, divorced statistician who’s friend, Leon, gives him a gift certificate to a rather suspect dating service as a birthday present. Instantly appalled by the idea of a dating service, Bill is encouraged by Leon first make a list of what they consider defines the perfect woman. To their astonishment, she appears, and then like the old saying goes, they discover they should be careful what they wished for.
Director Rita Arhipov has put together a terrific cast including Philip Richard Black, Dan Weber and Colleen Rae Lornie.
